ChefTec Now Scales By Bakers' Percentages
Added functionality broadens software program's appeal.
BOULDER, Colo. - Jan 13, 2004 - Culinary Software Services' flagship product, ChefTec, has been further improved to enable chefs working extensively with bakers' percentages to automatically scale recipes in that format.
Bakers' percentages express ingredient quantities relative to the weight of the flour in the recipe, rather than as a percentage of the total yield. This enables easy additions to a recipe for simple ingredients, such as raisins to cookies, without having to re-define all the other percentages.
"Since ChefTec was developed by chefs, for chefs, it has always been our goal to develop new functionality that makes the professional chef's life easier," says Brian Bennett, President of Culinary Software Services. "We had a number of bakers on our client list, and they all asked for this feature - hopefully this will persuade other groups who feel they could benefit from some new functionality to let us know."
Bennett claims that greater than 70% of the requests he receives from users for new features end up in a later version of the software. The newest iteration of ChefTec, Version 8, includes no less than five major functions that have been suggested by users including a Kitchen Calendar for memos and reminders, recipe card-compatible printing, and the ability to add ingredients to multiple profit centers.
"We're hoping that the new Bakers' Percentages encourage some of those pastry chefs and bagel companies out there to upgrade to ChefTec," says Bennett. "Some bakers doubted that we could do it - but really, it was a piece of cake."
